Anchored by Okanogan County, Wash., the Okanogan Country stretches from the craggy peaks of the Cascades to the rolling wheat fields of the northern Columbia Basin and from the shimmering waters of Lake Chelan to the high desert of south central British Columbia.
The areas of Okanogan County, northern Douglas and Chelan counties and Ferry Country are joined by common history, culture and economies.
Omak is Okanogan County's largest city. Visitors will find the largest selection of motels, restaurants and other tourism amenities in Omak. Motels, restaurants, shopping, antique and souvenir shops, post office, liquor store, parks, public swimming pool, East Side Park with RV park, hospital and other medical services, movie theater, art murals and scenic walk from Stampede grounds to downtown, golf nearby and senior citizens center.
Okanogan fought hard to become the county's seat of government and was successful in 1914 after a county-wide election. The first county seat was at the mining town of Ruby, which no longer exists. It moved to Conconully and finally moved to Okanogan after the election. Okanogan's original county courthouse, built in 1915, continues to serve Washington state's largest county in geographic size.
Towns nearby include Conconully, Riverside, Twisp and Winthrop.
